FRP Hand lay-up process  with fiberglass mat
The hand lay-up process with glass fiber chopped strand mat is a versatile method for manufacturing glass fiber reinforced plastics (GRP) and other fiber-reinforced composite parts. This technique is particularly suitable for prototype production, custom products, and small-scale manufacturing. The process begins with the careful preparation of a mold, starting with the application of a release agent to ensure easy demolding. A layer of gel coat is then applied to give the part a high-quality smooth finish. Next, the glass fiber mat is impregnated with synthetic resin and manually layered into the prefabricated mold. The layers are then consolidated and compacted with a special roller to effectively remove air bubbles, ensuring a uniform and defect-free structure.
The hand lay-up process allows for the excellent production of GRP objects in small batches. The advantages of GRP include corrosion resistance, lightweight, safety, extremely high durability, high elasticity and strength, rot-proof and maintenance-free characteristics, chemical resistance, high load-bearing capacity, and fire-resistant design.
